  • Chattanooga residents can enjoy a week of events featuring spring break activities at local parks like Audubon Acres, family outings such as Easter Bunny photo sessions at Hamilton Place starting March 21, live art exhibits and performances, and a Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival at Coolidge Park on March 22—many of which offer free entry while others require admission.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tree fell on power lines near James Blvd on Signal Mountain Thursday night and sparked a grass fire that led EPB crews to cut power so firefighters could contain the blaze by 9:00pm—workers then closed Mississippi Ave between Tennessee Ave and James Blvd to clear debris and restore service.  Local 3 News
  • A lightning bolt struck a home in Signal Mountain on Saturday, March 15, causing a fire that led to $200,000 in damages+ no one was injured as the home was empty.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Benton man Michael Duncan was arrested Friday after he intentionally rammed the back of a vehicle near Mahan Gap Road in Ooltewah during a road rage incident in September 2023 while driving a company vehicle with an expired commercial license+ he now faces charges for aggravated assault, driving on a suspended license and vandalism.  News Channel 9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Emergency services said that as of last night, the brush fire in Prentice Cooper State Forest is 80% contained near Suck Creek Mountain and small flames and smoke still appear over Signal Mountain and River Canyon. A burn ban is active across the Tennessee Valley and firefighters ask residents to call 911 if they see any active flames—protecting local safety.  Local 3 News

FINANCE NEWS

  • Data from the FTC’s Consumer Sentinel Network show that in 2024 consumers lost over $12.5 billion to fraud—a 25% increase from 2023—with investment scams and government imposter scams causing the largest losses. The BBB will host a free Shred Day on April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at Coca-Cola Bottling Co parking lot on 2111 W. Shepherd Road so residents can securely dispose of documents and electronics.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, Walnut Street Bridge will close for an 18-month renovation and pedestrians, cyclists, and tourists must use Veterans Bridge and Market Street Bridge as alternate routes—Veterans Bridge now has added barriers and bollards for safe crossing. Free shuttle routes operated by CARTA will begin Sunday to ease the transition, with a 15-minute service on a five-minute trip and another route making multiple stops.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Attorneys for former House Speaker Glen Casada and his aide say federal prosecutors hold evidence that may discredit key witnesses including current House Speaker Cameron Sexton—prosecutors have not turned over reports and interview notes that could weaken their testimonies. The defendants will stand trial on April 22 on charges of bribery, kickbacks, and money laundering.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
