  • Kathleen Robinson, a Chattanooga real estate agent, reached out to DNA detective Karla Archuleta on Facebook to help her 55-year-old husband Lincoln connect with his biological family after his adoptive father died last month—Archuleta used DNA test matches to locate his paternal half-brothers in Florida and set the stage for an emotional reunion near Chickamauga Lake.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Chattanooga Library hosted its annual Spring Book Sale on March 22, offering books for as little as one dollar and featuring a range of genres such as poetry—memoirs—drama. The event provided local readers a chance to find affordable titles in various categories.  Local 3 News

  • A Chattanooga man is behind bars after he allegedly held a woman captive for two days in his apartment on East 26th Street — police said he hit her, broke her phone, and took her money before she escaped.  News Channel 9
  • The remains of Tracy City resident Tyler Curtis, 31, were found today in a wooded area of Fiery Gizzard State Park and have been positively identified by the Grundy County Sheriff's Office—authorities say foul play is not suspected while the investigation remains ongoing.  Local 3 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 24, 1925, Chattanooga received its first airmail delivery when pilot Jack T. Turner flew a Curtiss Jenny from Birmingham through rough skies to deliver letters. Local business leaders gathered at Marr Field (a sign of a new era in mail service) as the flight marked an important moment in the city's history.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire crews are battling a nearly 500-acre wildfire that broke out Sunday afternoon in Sequatchie County after someone burning leaves on Woodcock Road likely sparked the blaze and caused damage to a dozen outbuildings, a trailer, and several homes while prompting evacuations in the Fredonia Mountain area — crews will continue their efforts today despite rough terrain and strong winds.  Local 3 News

  • Planners revealed a new comprehensive plan for Red Bank that will update zoning ordinances to allow more housing and redevelop the former middle school property—city officials say the plan will drive future community growth.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Sen. Raumesh Akbari and Rep. Karen Camper introduced the Tennessee Equal Opportunities for Girls' Sports Act to allocate state funding that will give girls equal access to equipment, coaching and facilities in school sports. The bill will be heard soon in the Senate to address the current funding gap between girls and boys.  News Channel 9
