  • In March, Big Chicken on Hixson Pike closed while Blue Skies announced its spring closure after 25 years, and the Chattanooga Airport revealed plans for Delta nonstop flights to New York and Spirit service to Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Newark starting in June. The airport also sought bids for a second parking garage, Echelon launched an AI workout initiative with AWS, the Lookouts’ new stadium is on track, a 20-acre tract was rezoned near U.S. Pipe/Wheland Foundry, The Poplin apartment building opened at Mill Town, and a 15-year tax break deal was approved for Novonix—details planned for summer—indicating a busy business month.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lookout Valley Middle High School band got new uniforms and instruments after over $30,000 in donations from Local 3 viewers and the Frost Family Foundation—students will debut the new gear at downtown Chattanooga's Armed Forces Day parade on May 3.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga updated its sign ordinance for the first time since 1986 to give local businesses more flexibility in signage design and placement—new changes include over 50 clear definitions and a 60 to 90-day period to educate staff and the public.  Local 3 News
  • Chattanooga was named the first National Park City in North America when the city announced the designation Thursday morning—making it the third globally to earn the title and recognizing its strong outdoor identity.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
