ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, April 8, a tractor trailer struck a railroad bridge on E. 11 St.—traffic was temporarily halted while Norfolk Southern and CDOT inspected the structure, and the road has now reopened after confirming safety precautions.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Walker County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in locating Kristen Elizabeth Elliott, a 14-year-old with red hair and hazel eyes who went missing from her Flintstone home on Old Chattanooga Valley Road at 2:30 a.m. on April 8th—Detective Brandon Barkley requests any information on her whereabouts at 706-670-1953.  Local 3 News
  • A Hamilton County woman filed a lawsuit against Massage Envy Hamilton Place, its franchise owner and a massage therapist after police contacted her over a still image taken without her knowledge on May 31—her lawyer claims up to 80 women were secretly recorded during treatments and she is seeking $750,000 in damages.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport started a new rule on Tuesday, April 8 that requires airlines to check bags at least 45 minutes before departure — a change meant to smooth travel. The airport also advises travelers to arrive two hours early to allow time for check-in and lines.  Local 3 News
  • Rep. Shaundelle Brooks (D-Hermitage) introduced Akilah's Law to hold accountable anyone who transfers a gun to a person with a mental health history (a measure inspired by her late son’s death in a Waffle House shooting at Antioch) after the bill cleared its first subcommittee in March. Mental health experts warn the bill could discourage treatment while lawmakers plan further debate.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Chattanooga has earned National Park City status after decades of community work and planning—becoming the first city in North America to receive the designation. City leaders believe the honor could open doors for more federal and state funding toward maintaining parks and green spaces—efforts that may shape future growth.  News Channel 9
  • Councilwoman Marvene Noel won the runoff election for the Chattanooga City Council District 8 seat—she is a longtime Historic Orchard Knob resident known for her community service and plans to focus on safety and affordable housing to strengthen local neighborhoods.  Local 3 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health inspectors from Hamilton, Catoosa and Walker counties finished inspections for the week ending April 8 and found several restaurants with issues like expired salmon and dirty dish machines — scores ranged from 84 to 100 and establishments that failed will be reinspected.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
