  • Local hemp business owners are worried after lawmakers passed a bill banning hemp products with THCA—City Smokes owner Hunter Mullis said his store could lose three of its four display cases if the amendment is signed into law. The amendment now awaits the Senate vote and may pose risks for consumers.  Local 3 News

  • Stacy Gough said her son Sean died two years ago after a fentanyl overdose and fraudsters used his ID to empty his bank account and bill fake pool repairs—CPD has opened an investigation and is offering a $10,000 reward for tips.  News Channel 9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fourth-generation cattle farmer Cole Liggett testified in March that if lawmakers roll back Tennessee’s wetlands protections, the mitigation banking industry—built on conservation credits—could see an 80% loss in demand and drive up developers’ costs. Scientists and environmental advocates joined him, warning that deregulation will harm local conservation efforts and the financial stability of this key sector.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Planning commissioners on Monday, April 14, voted against a proposal to allow warehouses and nonresidential buildings on two lots on Mountain View Road in Ooltewah—dozens of local residents opposed the plan.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly and all City Council members were sworn in on April 14 (marking the start of a new term for elected leaders) at a formal ceremony.  Local 3 News
