BUSINESS NEWS

  • A federal lawsuit filed in Chattanooga claims that Nationwide Recovery Services was grossly negligent for taking 5 days to detect hackers breaching its computer network from July 5th to 11th, which exposed the personal and financial data of about 14,000 customers—further prompting City Council members to cancel the city’s contract with the firm after initially planning an extension while the suit seeks damages and 10 years of credit monitoring.  News Channel 9
  • Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport set a March record with over 50,400 boardings and recorded 133,800 so far this year—its CEO said the growth is driven by rising demand. The airport will grow flight capacity with Spirit Airlines, Delta and Allegiant soon and plans to finish renovating its terminal restaurant by July.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Jury selection is underway at Hamilton County Courthouse in Chattanooga for the trial of three former officers charged with second-degree murder in Tyre Nichols' death & the trial is set to begin April 28.  News Channel 9
  • On Monday, a Chattanooga man shot his neighbor on Sylvan Drive and injured his dog; the neighbor was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the suspect now faces charges including attempted first degree murder, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated cruelty to animals, and tampering with evidence.  News Channel 9
  • Chattanooga Police arrested 41-year-old Anthony Newsom on April 21 after he shot a man in his yard and hurt his dog on Sylvan Drive — he now faces charges for attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, aggravated cruelty to animals, and evidence tampering as the investigation continues.  Local 3 News
  • D'Ante Jones, 22, was convicted of second degree murder for shooting 19-year-old Amazon worker Javontae Moon in a parking lot as he left work in August—he received a sentence of 23 years in prison.  News Channel 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Partnership for Families, Children and Adults is celebrating 50 years of providing deaf services that have helped make Chattanooga more inclusive. The nonprofit offers nearly 6,000 hours of interpreting in medical, legal and public settings and provides ASL classes and job coaching to support the deaf community.  News Channel 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga launched an upgraded CHA 311 app and online portal today that lets residents drop a pin for their location, snap a photo to auto-fill service details, and get updates on service requests. Mayor Tim Kelly said the update improves reporting for issues such as potholes, garbage, and graffiti removal—ensuring prompt city responses.  Local 3 News
