  • Chattanooga Market kicked off its 25th season last weekend when local vendors and artists offered handmade goods, fresh produce, and live music for shoppers. Connie Roberts from Connie Roberts Fine Art and other vendors said the event helped them connect with the community — a sign more market days are coming later this year.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Travis Downie fired shots at a deputy’s patrol car near Green Acres mobile home park in Rossville last year and later pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, possession of methamphetamine, stalking, and possession of a firearm by a convict, + he was sentenced to 45 years in prison + with 18 years required before parole.  News Channel 9
  • On April 26, agents placed decoy ads on predator sites that led to five arrests in Soddy Daisy by TBI, Soddy Daisy police, and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office for charges including trafficking, solicitation, and promoting prostitution—an operation aimed at rescuing commercial sex victims.  Local 3 News
  • Three former Memphis police officers began their state trial yesterday for charges including second-degree murder in connection with Tyre Nichols’ death after a 2023 traffic stop in Memphis— the jury was selected from Chattanooga for an impartial panel.  News Channel 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three students were recently recognized at Normal Park Museum Magnet School during the D.A.R.E. program graduation hosted by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office—first place winner Felix Windemuller said the program helped him manage his emotions and make responsible choices, with his essay set to compete in a county-wide contest alongside winners from other schools.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, retired director Connie Ridley told U.S. District Court that the Justice Department told her to keep paying bills to Phoenix Solutions—run by ex-staff member Cade Cothren who is on trial for corruption involving former House Speaker Glen Casada. The bills cost about $2,500 to $4,500 each and add up to $52,000, and Ridley said senior staff pushed her to pay them despite her concerns.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • A former City Council member, Darrin Ledford, is moving to become deputy chief of staff in Mayor Tim Kelly’s office after serving on the council since 2017. Kevin Roig will become chief of staff on Friday—replacing Jermaine Freeman—while Nicole Heyman takes on a new role as chief policy officer after spring election staffing changes.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
