  • A 4-year-old pit bull terrier named Romey at the Humane Educational Society in Chattanooga is up for adoption—he enjoys walks, playing ball, and giving big kisses, and the shelter says he loves meeting everyone.  Local 3 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Hamilton County rescue crews pulled a Vanderbilt University student out of Blue Spring Cave near Sparta after he fell ill three miles into the cave on Friday night — the team used a World War II-era phone to guide him through 2,000 feet of crawling passage before he recovered.  News Channel 9

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Linda Seng and her husband Phannavong Phom opened Oh Wow! Donuts in Signal Mountain to serve made-from-scratch doughnuts that have quickly become a hit with locals. They begin cooking early—at 2 a.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends—to ensure every doughnut is fresh and full of flavor.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • East Ridge police reported that on Monday, May 5th, shots were fired at Parkridge East Hospital on Spring Creek Road when three masked individuals in a black Dodge Durango fired in the parking lot at an intended target who retreated inside and was unhurt—no one else was injured.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Chattanooga activist Cameron Williams has launched a petition to rename Walnut Street Bridge in honor of lynching victim Ed Johnson, who was killed on March 19th. The bridge is closed for an 18-month renovation—Williams says its renaming when it reopens will honor Johnson’s legacy.  Local 3 News

  • Hamilton County Schools faces an up to $18.5 million budget deficit and district officials have proposed several cuts for next school year that will affect families and students + the changes could alter key services and programs.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
