- ➤ Chattanooga’s Hotel Chalet in the Chattanooga Choo Choo was ranked 14th in the world for its uniqueness by TripAdvisor’s Best of the Best list — it is the only North American site on the list after a $19 million renovation that converted old train cars into guest rooms. - ➤ Barn Nursery in Chattanooga suffered major hail damage late Thursday night that totaled its greenhouse roof and harmed outdoor plants and pottery—President Cole Webster estimates the inventory loss reached hundreds of thousands. The nursery remains open with restrictions, including no dogs, and children must be closely supervised as Webster awaits a full insurance assessment. News Channel 9

- ➤ Chattanooga police arrested a 17-year-old male on Thursday in the 4800 block of Swan Road after a carjacking in which he reportedly put a gun to a victim's face and exchanged gunfire, suffering minor injuries and being taken to a local hospital before he was held at Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center. - ➤ Chattanooga police say a woman was bludgeoned with a golf club during a fight when another woman was picking up a shot glass at an apartment complex on W. 14th Street Court at around 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday—60-year-old Delesia Aileen Vines was arrested on Thursday for attempted first-degree murder while the victim was taken to a local hospital. - ➤ A 60-year-old woman in Chattanooga was arrested on attempted first degree murder charges after she struck another woman in the head with a golf club nearly five times at an apartment on West 14th Street Court just before 11 p.m. Wednesday—police said the victim suffered severe head injuries and was taken to the hospital. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Hamilton County Board of Education amended the 2025—26 school calendar on May 8th by reducing benchmark tests to one per year and moving a professional development day and a half-day from Wednesday to Monday; the first semester is set from Aug. 6 to Dec. 19 and the second from Jan. 7 to May 21. The board also approved the 2026—27 calendar with similar schedules, letting families plan ahead for the next two school years. Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ Governor Bill Lee announced on Friday that he appointed Jennifer Peck to fill the vacancy on the 11th Judicial District Circuit Court in Hamilton County created when Judge Michael Dumitru resigned. Peck currently serves as Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer at the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. Local 3 News
- ➤ The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Re-Entry Program held a job and resource fair at the local detention center on Friday, where 29 inmates (11 females) met with local businesses and social service organizations to gain help with finding jobs and other support for their transition. This event helped prepare inmates for their upcoming release. Local 3 News
