- ➤ Chattanooga police say Barron White came to return a woman's bike at her apartment off Gateway Avenue on Monday evening but stabbed her when she asked him to leave—he is now charged with aggravated assault and attempted first degree murder after she was treated for wounds to her chest, breast, palm, and thigh at a hospital. - ➤ TVA applied for a license on Tuesday to build the first small modular reactor at its Clinch River Nuclear Site in Oak Ridge — a 300-megawatt reactor that can power about 175,000 homes. TVA said non-nuclear construction may begin in 2026 if it secures a DOE grant to support the project. Chattanooga Times Free Press
- ➤ Hamilton County Commissioners praised the school board on May 19 for a balanced budget that closed a $16 million deficit, though the plan made deep cuts in staffing and testing that will affect student services & outcomes. Local 3 News
- ➤ Two new Pet Resource Centers will open in Red Bank to help pet owners and ease shelter overcrowding—one at Fire Station No. 1 (3127 Dayton Boulevard) and another at Fire Station No. 2 (4851 Dayton Boulevard), both featuring microchip scanners and pantries for food and supplies funded by a grant from the Citizens’ Advisory Board.
