CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Mathew Stoddard (41) died on July 13th after deputies allegedly used excessive force during his arrest, and his wife has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Sullivan County and (11) deputies for using verbal taunts and psychological abuse while county attorney Dan Street has not commented. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Morgan Armstrong, a graduating senior at Tennessee Christian Preparatory School in Cleveland, sued the school after she was suspended and banned from campus events following her public post on April 23 that revealed she is in a relationship with another young woman. The lawsuit claims the school violated its disciplinary policy and tuition contract by punishing her for a private social media message—an action that led to her diploma being withheld until June 15— prompting her family to take legal action. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ UTC's CUIP was awarded a $500,000 grant from TNECD to fund two projects that will improve traffic and pedestrian safety in Chattanooga. One project will use AI with DENSO to predict and detect crashes while the other will develop a smart crosswalk system using real-time sensors and AI with LG CNS. Local 3 News
- ➤ Chattanooga city council is reviewing next year's budget to see if they can cover police and firefighter raises, which are estimated to cost about $18.5 million. Some members support a continued resolution to delay finalizing the budget until after a first reading on June 3 + a second reading on June 10 to allow more time to find the needed funds.
