  • An AI-generated Facebook post falsely claimed that a 40-foot-wide sinkhole formed at Red Clay Historic Park on Sunday after an earthquake, but Park Manager Erin Medley confirmed that photos do not show any sinkhole — she warned visitors to check facts online before believing such claims. The post, published by a satirical page, increased visitor interest while raising concerns about safe media consumption in the age of AI.  Local 3 News

  • A 51-year-old hiker fell 50 feet from Leggett Trail near Sale Creek on June 1 when the ground gave way as she used her walking pole—her husband first helped her back onto the path—and local first responders—Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies—arrived to transport her to a hospital for treatment.  Local 3 News

  • A Chattanooga man was arrested after a shooting at an intersection on March 25 that left a victim paralyzed from the waist down—Jakel Woods, 22, admitted he fired when the victim stepped out to get a bluetooth speaker and now faces charges including attempted first degree murder with a court date on Tuesday, June 3.  Local 3 News

  • WUTC host Richard Winham will retire at the end of June after nearly 40 years on air, with his final broadcast set for June 30, which is also his birthday. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nick Jung, 41, left nearly 20 years in Chattanooga restaurants and studied at Chattanooga State Community College before starting as a cybersecurity specialist at Pellera Technologies—he now earns four times as much after facing burnout and low wages.   • The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is featured on the 38th season of Cops, with filming that started May 28 and will continue until July 19. The show follows selected deputies on patrol—each rough cut is reviewed 20 days before airing—on Fox Nation.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Chattanooga officials broke ground this spring on One Westside—an $89 million redevelopment that starts with a 230-unit apartment complex replacing aging public housing without displacing residents. The project is the first of seven phases that will add 1,126 new housing units in the Westside neighborhood by 2032.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Chattanooga's new skate park project has been delayed because a higher bidding proposal has pushed the budget past $3.15 million — city officials are still refining the design and hope to start construction in the summer. Skater Nick Moore plans to create a pocket park in his shop’s CARTA parking lot — he has started a fundraiser to cover the gap before the new site is completed.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga is now accepting online applications for its Future Homeowners program until June 14th.
