COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Red Bank officials are asking residents to share photos, stories or clippings to help archive the city's history ahead of its 70th anniversary celebration on June 21 at Red Bank City Park on Redding Road. The event will run from 12:00pm to 5:00pm and will feature races, live music, food trucks and displays from police, fire and public works departments — inviting community members to join the festivities.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Chattanooga man Nicholas Cheaton, 41, linked to the Angel Bumpass case was indicted for first-degree murder by a Hamilton County grand jury after he fatally shot a 44-year-old man on March 15 in the 3700 block of Youngstown Road—an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation connected him to a fatal shooting on March 14 at a Chickamauga home while he remains in Walker County custody.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Lookout Mountain police arrested 65-year-old Jeffrey Adair Young, a Cleveland man, on Monday after he sent explicit messages to an undercover agent he thought was a 15-year-old boy, and they also arrested 25-year-old Catalino Miguel Zarate Garcia who tried to meet an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old girl at a tennis court.  News Channel 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • This weekend, Chattanooga offers a mix of art exhibits, film screenings and music concerts along with family-friendly events like the Ice Cream Safari at the zoo, Juneteenth runs, and Father’s Day celebrations. Local venues from galleries to parks will host activities from daytime races to evening performances—giving residents a variety of cultural and community experiences to enjoy.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The City of Chattanooga's Office of Early Learning will launch Sawubona, a mobile library and family resource center, with a carnival-themed celebration at First Horizon Pavilion on June 12 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The bus, named after a Zulu greeting (meaning 'I see you, I value you, you are important'), will also debut the Turn On the Subtitles campaign to boost children's reading skills.  Local 3 News
  • Graduate student Joshy Kasahara of Southern Adventist University created an interactive map that shows data on nearly 1,600 highway crashes recorded from November 2020 through April (highlighting areas like the I-75 and I-24 junction). Professor Harvey Alférez said the project will include live updates in the future (helping drivers in Chattanooga be more aware of accident trends).  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Hamilton County 911 said residents and visitors may now send pictures and videos when calling 911 for emergencies. Dispatchers will use secure links to view live footage during calls to help guide actions like baby deliveries or performing CPR.  Local 3 News
  • Chattanooga City Council held its final vote on Mayor Tim Kelly's proposed 2025 to 2026 budget on June 10—if approved, the $348 million plan will take effect on July 1 and fund public services, affordable housing, transit and road improvements.  Local 3 News
