ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Tennessee Highway Patrol said two men were hurt when a 59-year-old driver rolled his Wright Brothers dump truck on the I-75 southbound on-ramp at Volkswagen Drive shortly after 12:00 p.m. Thursday—both he and a 47-year-old passenger wore seat belts and the ramp reopened later.  Local 3 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chattanooga’s Scenic City Summit will expand to a three-day event at UTC, the Convention Center, and the Edney Innovation Center as it celebrates 10 years with 300 to 400 tech fans coming from the Southeast on June 19-21. On the first day at UTC there will be skill-building workshops, on the second day the Convention Center will host a full tech conference, and on the third day the Innovation Center will hold a hackathon to address local challenges.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 9, Chattanooga police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and other agencies carried out an undercover operation that led to the arrest of four individuals for human trafficking and related offenses—charges include promoting prostitution, solicitation of a minor, and aggravated statutory rape with bonds set between $11,000 and $200,000.  News Channel 9
  • Kilmar Abrego Garcia pleaded not guilty to human smuggling charges in a federal court in Tennessee on Friday—his lawyers called the charges preposterous and a judge will soon decide if he should be released.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • A 15-year-old from Meigs County was charged with first-degree murder after a fatal shooting on Tuesday on Gunstocker Road, and she was given attorney Sheridan Randolph with a new court date set for Aug. 16 while she undergoes mental health evaluations to check her competency.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga police lieutenant Joe Shaw, a 23-year veteran, graduated from the National Public Safety Innovation Academy, an eight-week program for law enforcement leaders (he now serves as the Director of Community Development and Recruitment at CPD). He plans to use his new training to strengthen leadership and prepare the department for future challenges.  Local 3 News
  • Gov. Bill Lee and TNECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter will travel to France next week for the 55th International Paris Air Show to meet with companies and attract new jobs and investments to Tennessee's aerospace and defense sector. They will hold meetings with French multinationals including Schneider Electric and Orano—efforts expected to boost the state's economic growth—to strengthen global partnerships.  Local 3 News
