  • A Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Hamilton County was renamed to honor Ooltewah native Private First Class Travis F. Haslip, who died in Iraq in 2007 when a roadside bomb exploded. Nearly 150 family members, officials, and community supporters gathered Monday for the dedication—marking a lasting tribute to his service.  News Channel 9
  • Finley Stadium board members approved a master study to plan upgrades that will improve locker rooms, add concert features and create a plaza linking the stadium and neighborhood—HKS Architects and Tinker Ma will begin the study next month with plans to complete it by year's end while they seek additional financing.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Final Flash Productions owner Christopher Shaw is using Juneteenth to honor Black History Month and celebrate his freedom to run his own business. Urban League of Greater Chattanooga said his work — showing that black entrepreneurship empowers the community — will encourage local shoppers to support black-owned businesses.  Local 3 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park held a private ceremony for its 100-year celebration on June 17 with remarks from park leadership and local officials (including representatives from IAAPA and the National Amusement Park Historical Association). The event began at 10:00 a.m. (with an official proclamation from the State of Georgia honoring the park’s century-long legacy).  Local 3 News

  • A UTC engineering student designed a custom helmet for rescue pup Wrexham, who was born with a fragile skull, by printing over a dozen prototypes until finding a lightweight, flexible fit—Wrexham’s adoptive parents expressed gratitude for his extra effort and care.  Local 3 News
  • Skyuka Hall, a Chattanooga school for students with learning differences, purchased the former Precept campus on Noah Reid Road for $11.75 million and will move to the 36-acre property next fall after $3.5M in renovations expand its space. The school plans to increase enrollment from 120 to 250 students by 2030.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Hamilton County officials warn that rapid growth may outpace the county’s ability to support housing, schools and infrastructure—local leaders say the proposed Plan Hamilton will regulate new homes, roads and sewer systems with a county vote on the plan set for this week.  News Channel 9
