Good morning, Chattanooga. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 24th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes sold 43.8 acres of its Chattanooga campus near Lee Highway for $8.035 million to Art Holdings Tn to help fund new homes for kids in crisis. The nonprofit will use over $10 million from this and a previous sale to improve its facilities while keeping its remaining property for current residents — protecting them against commercial change — as it starts its Firm Foundations Project.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A female hiker who had fallen off a trail at Prentice Cooper State Park was rescued by the Waldens Ridge Emergency Service Technical Rope Rescue—assisted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Hamilton County Emergency Medical Service, and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office—and taken to the hospital.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • 53-year-old Sead Miljkovic from East Ridge reached a plea deal for passport fraud after admitting to using false personal details when renewing his passport in 2017—he was previously found not guilty of war crimes in Bosnia in the 1990s.  News Channel 9
  • Authorities in Bradley County charged 24-year-old Lindsey Carter Cash with 30 counts of animal cruelty after deputies found about 15 very thin dogs and other animals in poor condition at her home on Eighth Street—neighbors said they had not seen her for days.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee runs four nuclear reactors at Sequoyah (18 miles from here) and Watts Bar (55 miles away) that power 42% of the state's electricity. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann said the reactors use low enriched uranium for safe, steady power while Oak Ridge securely manages higher enriched uranium used in its historic operations.  Local 3 News
  • Matt Bedsole — who led a housing innovation lab in Atlanta — was named the first president and chief executive of Invest Chattanooga, a housing production fund launched with $20 million from the city to support affordable rental projects; he plans to work with local partners to quickly develop a detailed strategy for new housing initiatives amid a tight market.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Collegedale closed Camp Road Monday to repair major structural issues, and the road will remain closed for 6 to 8 weeks since Hamilton County has not finished work on East Brainerd Road — drivers lost their usual detour route — as crews begin repairs immediately. Public Works Director Kris McAloon said the town delayed the closure to wait for Hamilton County’s project but could not wait any longer.  News Channel 9
  • Governor Bill Lee competed in the 43rd annual Publix Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon over the weekend, finishing 226 of 376 racers and placing seventh in his age group. He completed a one-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride, and six-mile run in just under three hours — snapping a photo with Chattanooga officers and Hamilton County EMS— before concluding his race.  Local 3 News
