  • Whitwell Middle student Axton Robertson (12) met his hero, Tom Brady, during Fanatics Fest in New York City on June 20. The meeting was arranged by the Make-A-Wish Foundation after Axton entered remission from cancer.  Chattanooga CW

  • Gary and Rhonda Davis, who created and ran Flagstone Golf Club between 1991 and 1999, bought it back three years ago—keeping it a true family business with plans to pass it on to future generations.  Local 3 News
  • On June 19th, Pedestrian Wine and Cheese opened on Frazier Avenue selling natural wine, Chattanooga Whiskey and on-site made cheese. The shop—offering classes and events—aims to bring a new charcuterie experience to local wine lovers.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Atmosphere — a new hemp shop that blends a store and coffee shop downstairs with a psychedelic speakeasy upstairs — will open on Saturday, June 28 on Market Street in downtown Chattanooga.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Chris Sumrell, owner of FarmToMed, said that a new Tennessee law signed on May 21 will force his business to close by making the sale of raw hemp flower—which accounts for 86% of retail sales—illegal, despite the crop being federally certified. Clearance sales will run from July 1 until the inventory is liquidated at his two locations on North Market and Highway 153.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A former Hamilton County teacher, Kenya White, pleaded guilty to federal charges for sending inappropriate messages to underage students while teaching at Chattanooga Preparatory School and East Lake Academy—he will face sentencing on October 22 and still has state charges pending.  Local 3 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • TVA is asking local power customers to limit energy use during a heatwave by setting thermostats between 75 and 78 degrees and delaying major appliances in favor of non-peak hours (early in the morning, later at night). TVA will notify customers when they can return to normal power use as demand continues to rise.  Chattanooga CW
