  • Johnny Dowd from Decatur was named the winner of this year’s St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, and over $1.7 million was raised to support research, treatment and patient care. Local partners including Chattanooga's Core Homes contributed donated materials, labor and land to build the Dream Home—showing strong community backing.  Local 3 News
  • The Chattanooga Times Free Press earned 24 awards from the Tennessee Press Association journalism awards including the top General Excellence honor for large newspapers+ the awards ceremony was held in Memphis Saturday where it competed against other major state papers.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • The Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department, joined by fire crews from Dallas Bay and Sequoyah, held a celebration of life to honor late firefighter Bobby Johnson who died earlier this month battling cancer—organizers also launched a GoFundMe to support his family's funeral and medical expenses.  Local 3 News

  • Owner Lisa Porter opened Gothic Trading Co at 514 Tremont St on March 29—she said her 14-year-old daughter inspired the idea for a year-round goth shop in North Chattanooga. CRIME NEWS

  • Chattanooga police arrested Joseph Tanner Smith, 31, after officers responded around 5:32 a.m. Sunday to a stabbing on Lindsay Avenue—where a dispute turned violent and a 37-year-old man suffered fatal stab wounds—and both men were taken for treatment.  Local 3 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In a classroom filled with sparks and steel, teens such as Jessica Gabriel Domingo found passion in welding through a program run by Chattanooga 2.0 amid a statewide skilled labor shortage—this initiative received a $500,000 grant and will expand to offer more students a pathway to living wage jobs.  Chattanooga CW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials have allocated almost $246 million to widen a 10-mile stretch of I-24 from the U.S. 27 interchange in Chattanooga to I-59 in Dade County—public meetings on July 8 and July 10 will let residents ask questions before engineering starts in 2026 and construction begins in 2027.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month and Brandon Clift, cohost of The ManKind Project USA's podcast, said he struggled with isolation and the pressure to appear strong in his early 20s before finding support in local men's groups.
