Good morning, Chattanooga. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 4th of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Volkswagen of America reported a 29% drop in second-quarter sales from last year at its Chattanooga plant, including a 65% fall in ID.4 electric SUV numbers. CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday evening, Chattanooga deputies arrested 31-year-old Marlon Crawl, Jr. in Hixson after he drove recklessly and attempted to assault a deputy—investigators found a loaded handgun, meth, fentanyl, and marijuana in his car—and he now faces charges including resisting arrest and unlawful firearm possession.  News Channel 9
  • Chattanooga police arrested three juveniles on June 20th and June 21st after 71 car break-ins were reported from June 8 to 14, and they urge residents to lock their vehicles and hide valuables (especially in crowded parking areas) to stay safe.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Workers used controlled explosions on Saturday to bring down the old smokestack and scrubber tower at TVA’s Bull Run Fossil Plant, leaving piles of rubble behind. TVA said it will close its remaining coal plants by 2035 and build new natural gas, nuclear, and solar units—while officials work on plans for coal ash cleanup and future energy needs.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • After 30 years, the Soddy-Daisy clinic closed because fewer patients came during COVID-19, so the Hamilton County Health Department launched a mobile health unit.
