  • On Fourth of July weekend, a ceremony on July 5 honored veterans who served our nation when some of their names were permanently displayed on Chattanooga grounds—paying tribute to their sacrifice. The event marked a local effort to remember those who fought for our freedom.  Local 3 News
  • Chattanooga Zoo will host the Q'n Brew cookout on Saturday, July 12 (6:00pm to 9:00pm) featuring local BBQ, beer, live music by Bluetastic Fangrass, and animal activities including tortoise races and close encounters with animal ambassadors. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 4, a detached garage on Barker Road in Dunlap burned down after fireworks debris left in a trash can sparked a fire, and volunteer firefighters arrived quickly to stop the flames from spreading as no one was injured.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Hamilton County deputies arrested a 28-year-old (Atlanta) resident and a 37-year-old passenger when they stopped a stolen white Honda Accord on Hixson Pike on Thursday after discovering methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and suspected contraband, and the suspects face multiple charges with a court appearance on July 16.  Local 3 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A review in the Chattanooga Times Free Press said Julia Elliott’s new story collection Hellions mixes strange creatures and bold characters in tales set in Appalachian swamps. The review noted that the book is her second collection (256 pages) and came after a well-regarded debut (a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice) that shows her skill in blending folklore with modern stories.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • At the Medal of Honor Heritage Center in Chattanooga, the Fourth of July Bricks of Honor Dedication Ceremony honored Tony Taylor, widow of Captain Larry L. Taylor, with red and grey bricks that bear the names of local and national heroes. The center will accept more dedications until September 12 — and hold its next ceremony on November 8.  Local 3 News

  • A Tennessee mother organized the Sweet Charlotte Firecracker Walk on Signal Mountain to honor her 19-year-old daughter who died from fentanyl poisoning — her action comes as a new law makes it a felony to expose children to fentanyl. Nearly 200 local residents joined the walk — local leaders said the law is meant to stop dangerous drug use near kids.  News Channel 9
