BUSINESS NEWS

  • BBB in Chattanooga has released a checklist to help buyers spot flood-damaged cars by checking the title, interior signs, and vehicle history—advising a pre-purchase inspection to avoid hidden problems. The bureau will also host Fall Shred Day on Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. on W. Shepherd Road.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Three Chattanooga men were arrested after they led officers on a high-speed chase along Holtzclaw Avenue that ended when Travale Davenport crashed his car after hitting a guardrail—officers later finding drugs, firearms and empty bottles labeled 'Promethazine Hydrochloride'.  News Channel 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabeth Barnes, a biology professor at Middle Tennessee State University, said she faces challenges teaching evolution because many students think accepting it means rejecting faith—her 2022 study showed that half of the biology students held this view and she stresses that science is meant to explore natural phenomena without settling religious questions.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

FINANCE NEWS

  • Fair Isaac Corp. (FICO) will launch a new credit score model called FICO 10 BNPL later this fall that will include buy now, pay later loans in its calculations, addressing the rapid growth of these loans over the past five years. The updated system will take effect as lenders begin reporting loan data to the major credit bureaus (the agencies), though adoption by credit providers may take time.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • TVA is forming a board that is all male — all white, even though the 1933 law requires its members to reflect the region's diversity.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
