CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chadrick Weaver, 48, was accused of hijacking a Chattanooga bus at gunpoint and requested a later federal trial date to prepare an insanity defense. He took the bus on Feb. 26, 2023 on Brainerd Road and brandished a 20-gauge shotgun—he now faces charges including carjacking, aggravated kidnapping, and other offenses amid a criminal history. - ➤ Local 3 News data showed that violent crimes in Chattanooga dropped in June as aggravated assaults fell from 76 to 44 and shootings dropped from 11 to 4, while experts said further study was needed to see if high temperatures played a role. Local 3 News

- ➤ An aviation analytics firm reported that the Chattanooga Airport will see a 32% increase in seat capacity in the upcoming third quarter compared to last year, outpacing the typical 4% growth at similar small hubs—expanded services from American Airlines, Delta, and United—and three new Spirit destinations are set to boost travel options. - ➤ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is asking for public input on a plan to stabilize a 1900 feet stretch of riverbank in Chattanooga near the Hubert Fry Center along the Tennessee Riverwalk and just below the C.B. Robinson Bridge because erosion threatens a nearby pumping station and wastewater line—comments must be emailed by August 6. News Channel 9
- ➤ Hamilton County Emergency Management Agency officials are using the Tennessee Flood Plan Predictor to simulate flooding scenarios with up to 22 inches of rain in 29 watersheds that drain into the Tennessee River. They will review every aspect of their plan after deadly flooding in Texas and work with TVA—who operate 49 dams—to help keep residents safe. Local 3 News
