- ➤ A new Goodwill Donation Xpress Center will open in Ooltewah on July 17 to let area residents donate gently used clothing, furniture, and household items. The center is located next to Sunrise Market Shell gas station (on Ooltewah-Georgetown Road) and supports Goodwill's effort to help people transform their potential into opportunity. Local 3 News
- ➤ The Incline Railway at Lookout Mountain will reopen next week after eight months of repairs from wildfire damage caused by a rock slide that destroyed more than 1,000 feet of track and its cable system—officials confirmed a $2 million repair that included a dry pipe system for safety. Local business leaders in St. Elmo hope the reopening will boost tourist traffic. News Channel 9

- ➤ Today, Chattanooga Gas—serving about 72,000 customers in Hamilton and Bradley counties—said its recent purchase of renewable natural gas will stop thousands of metric tons of greenhouse gases from being released into the air. - ➤ A judge ruled in favor of the Chattanooga Times Free Press after determining that secret redistricting meetings broke open meetings law and that City Council must follow Tennessee’s Open Meetings Act—submitting semi-annual reports and accepting one year of oversight. Council members and staff met privately before the March 1, 2022 public session, setting a new standard for government transparency. Chattanooga Times Free Press
- ➤ Six months after the previous administrator was fired, Mayor Weston Wamp chose Beka Bohannon as the new head of the Hamilton County Health Department, and the County Commission will vote on her appointment on July 16th. Bohannon, a licensed mental health therapist who worked on recovery courts and the opioid crisis, said she will focus on improving access to health services in our community — officials say her appointment comes at a pivotal time. - ➤ Starting August 5th, residents with the 423 area code must dial 10 digits for all local calls due to the addition of a new area code—729 that covers Chattanooga and surrounding areas. New phone numbers will be issued with the 729 code beginning September 5th while emergency numbers remain unchanged. News Channel 9
