BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ford is recalling more than 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles with 1.5L engines because a fuel injector may crack and leak and cause an engine fire. Owners will get a letter on Aug. 18—Ford will offer free engine control software updates until a final remedy is available.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Randy Vega—charged with DUI, two counts of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and additional offenses—is set for trial on November 10 for the November 25 crash on Frazier Avenue that killed 41-year-old Anna Posso Rodriguez and her 1-year-old son, and he remains in Hamilton County Jail.  Local 3 News
  • A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot shortly after midnight Sunday near the 1700 block of Read Avenue and 18-year-old Malik Isaiah Allen was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and reckless endangerment—his bail is set at $600,000 with a court appearance on July 29.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday, UTC broke ground on the new Oak Street Residence Hall with 794 beds to ease the housing shortage as more than 1,200 students had been waiting for on-campus housing. The $114 million project—led by a local architecture firm—is expected to be finished by fall.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga Airport's board approved a contract with American Structural Concrete to build a new parking garage that will add 1,600 spaces and cost nearly $35 million—state funds cover 95% of the project, which is set to finish by January 2027. The contract comes after the airport recorded record passenger boardings in May and June and marks a nearly 20% increase in capacity over the current garage.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Hamilton County Health Department will host a back-to-school event Thursday evening to help students prepare for the new semester—this live segment follows a recent discussion with local representatives on Monday.  News Channel 9
