- ➤ Chattanooga Room in the Inn, a nonprofit supporting women and children facing homelessness, will begin accepting thrift store donations today between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at its new East Ridge location at 3807 Ringgold Road—its grand opening is set for September. - ➤ The Chattanooga Fire Department fought a fire at the Buzzi Unicem USA cement plant on Suck Creek Road on August 4 (near the base of Signal Mountain) and no injuries were reported (plant operations remained unaffected). Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ In July, Chattanooga saw several business changes as the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway reopened and Full Circle Refillery opened at 2312 E. Main St while Gordon’s Cleaners closed after 73 years and both Naked River Brewing Co. and Sticky Fingers Rib House stopped operations—shifting local options for residents. In addition, Echelon Fitness expanded by acquiring Forte, the airport approved a parking garage for 1,600 spaces, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga received a $2.4 million federal grant for mental health training, council approved one‑staircase multifamily buildings, and several projects advanced including a new residence hall with 794 beds, a 42‑house tiny home community, an eight‑story downtown hotel, and a prepared food operation expected to add over 600 jobs. - ➤ Chattanooga man Sean Ryan Little pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after claiming the devil made him stab his estranged girlfriend Sara Ferguson—he was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Chattanooga Times Free Press
- ➤ A Polk County man, Kevin Wade O'Neal, 54, was arrested on multiple charges including 11 counts of attempted first-degree murder when officers discovered 14 suspected explosives and a smoldering device during a warrant service at his Amber Way home in Old Fort—authorities evacuated the home and deployed bomb squad and federal agents. - ➤ Chattanooga residents seeking legal help can use resources like Legal Aid of East Tennessee and the Chattanooga Bar Association referral service to get advice on criminal charges and civil issues+ attorneys say gathering proper documentation and understanding fee structures are important before consulting a lawyer. - ➤ Chattanooga officials filed a notice of appeal after a judge ruled that open meetings laws were broken during nonpublic meetings on redrawing voting district maps. - ➤ The City of Red Bank will team with local law enforcement and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration — a high-visibility effort to stop drunk driving — to launch the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from August 15 through September 1.
