EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton County schools now follow a law that requires elementary students to get 40 minutes of recess every day—this change took effect on July 1 and sets recess as unstructured outdoor play except when weather is dangerous. Snow Hill Elementary’s principal said the new schedule helps teachers plan lessons while giving students a regular break.  News Channel 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly apologized on Tuesday at a council meeting after his budget proposal remarks—suggesting a link between votes and a mileage rate that could raise property taxes—drew criticism from council members. He said his comment was unintentional and pledged to work quickly to improve the city.  Local 3 News
  • Hamilton County mourned the death of Buddy Kamin—he served over 50 years in EMS and as chief of the Hazmat team. He retired after battling cancer and died after a long illness, leaving a deep mark on his community.  Chattanooga CW
  • Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly apologized on Tuesday to council members who felt his comments during a budget meeting were a political threat—he said his remarks were not meant to create division.  Local 3 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three restaurants on Ringgold Road in Chattanooga failed health inspections after inspectors found mouse droppings, moldy food, and unsanitary conditions (including live insects and overflowing trash). The restaurants scored in the mid-60s and follow-up inspections will update the results.  Local 3 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Taco Mamacita has reopened its remodeled North Shore location with an expanded kitchen, centralized bar, and spacious patio, offering an updated menu with scratch-made corn tortillas and Tijuana-style tacos. Local owners Mike and Taylor Monen (the original taqueria opened in 2008) said the restaurant welcomes customers daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (located at 109 N.
