- ➤ On Tuesday, heavy rain caused flash flooding in East Ridge that left some homes water-damaged, including Cameron Eaves' house where water reached his mother's lower leg. A Southern Baptist Disaster Relief team began work by removing damaged drywall and insulation near Ringgold Road—volunteers from local churches plan to restore additional homes. - ➤ The American Red Cross provided shelter and cleanup kits for Chattanoogans after flooding on Aug 15—Julia Wright said residents in need could access essential services. Local 3 News
- ➤ Faith Community Wesleyan Church in Chattanooga was hit by severe flooding on Tuesday—nearly trapping new leaders Alex and Katie Lawrence as water damaged walls, electrical sockets and furniture. - ➤ The Embassy Suites hotel at 345 Broad St. in downtown Chattanooga opened two days ago as a soft launch of a $60 million project and will have its grand opening on September 9 at 4 p.m.—the 184-room building fills most of a block—and it is the largest new investment in downtown in over a decade. - ➤ A student at The Howard School pulled a knife during a fight with about six students Friday morning and now faces charges for unlawful possession of a weapon and felony reckless endangerment—no other students were charged according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. News Channel 9

- ➤ Mayor Tim Kelly released the final proposal on Friday that sets the property tax rate at $1.93 per $100 of property value and allocates extra funds for police and firefighter raises. The new plan will be reviewed at a public hearing on Tuesday, August 19 at 3:30 p.m.—this is the largest tax cut in decades to help with rising costs. Local 3 News
- ➤ Hamilton County Sheriff's Office announced that starting salaries for frontline deputies will increase effective August 20 — Patrol Deputies will begin at $62,000 and Corrections Deputies at $54,000, with additional rates for Judicial Security, Civil Warrants, and Corrections Services Deputies. The boost was achieved using existing budgeted funds from the Hamilton County Commission with no tax increase. Local 3 News
- ➤ Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett announced that starting Aug. 20, patrol deputies will earn $62,000 and corrections deputies $54,000—using existing budget funds from the Hamilton County Commission to keep the department competitive without a tax increase. Chattanooga Times Free Press
