- ➤ A strong storm hit Brainerd Motorsports Park Friday at around 4:30 p.m.—it ripped awnings from bleachers, scattered debris, and forced cleanup crews to work before the weekend race crowd arrives. Organizers thanked the community and will update on the next race date soon. News Channel 9
- ➤ Two groups in Chattanooga will share $15,000 from Norfolk Southern’s grant program—Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer will use the funds to support family mental health care while Net Resource Foundation will use the money for its Community Choice Pantry that lets residents choose their groceries. The grants are part of Norfolk Southern’s effort to work with local nonprofits to boost community safety and health, with more applications accepted through Sept. 1. Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ The Tennessee Supreme Court suspended Hamilton County attorney Steven Michael Hodgen for six years for neglecting his client by failing to communicate and respond to key motions. He works in Chattanooga (licensed since 2006) and must meet the court’s requirements before he can seek reinstatement. News Channel 9
- ➤ Hamilton County patrol and corrections deputies will receive a salary increase starting August 20 with patrol deputies now earning $62,000 and corrections deputies $54,000, and judicial security and civil warrants deputies getting $55,000 while corrections services deputies start at $50,000. Officials clarified the raise is not retroactive and uses existing funds — Sheriff Garrett stated it is designed to recruit and retain quality personnel. News Channel 9
