COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Chattanooga offers many events including the Chatt Town Cool Down at Coolidge Park and art exhibits, film screenings, music shows, and sports games that bring the community together. Nearby, families can enjoy UFO Days in Fyffe and the Watermelon Festival at McDonald Farm—each event providing fun activities for all ages.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Two men were arrested in Hamilton County over the weekend for sexual battery; 21 year old Zachary Alexander Sharp was charged after police found a naked injured woman on Market Street and 18 year old Jacob Powell was arrested after an alleged assault of a UTC student following a party.  Local 3 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton County Schools will combine Rivermont, Dupont and Alpine Crest into one new elementary school that will open in 2027 on the North River Family YMCA property—this school will serve 650 to 800 students with a capacity for up to 900 and include after-school programs.  News Channel 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Chattanooga said they learned lessons after last Tuesday’s flash flooding that caused road and house damage and led to rescues on I-24—some council members questioned TDOT’s role and demanded clear plans to prevent future incidents.  News Channel 9
  • Residents in Chattanooga voiced their opinions Tuesday on a new property tax proposal from Mayor Tim Kelly that would lower the rate to $1.93 per $100 but cost homeowners about $400 more due to rising property values—city leaders say the extra funds will support public safety projects and pay raises for first responders.  News Channel 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • Chattanooga firefighter Lt. Alexander Efiom delivered a baby girl on the side of Interstate 75 last Thursday after his crew attended an OB class—he ensured the newborn's airway was clear and monitored her vital signs until EMS arrived. The mother and newborn were taken to the hospital and are reported to be doing well.  News Channel 9
