- ➤ The Chattery, a nonprofit offering adult classes, is raising $50,000 to buy back its former Southside location after an arson fire forced it out last year— the campaign will fund an extra 2,500 square feet for future programs and events. - ➤ In May, Cleveland officer Jordan Martin rescued a two-year-old boy and his mother from drowning in a creek — EMS transported the boy to Chattanooga for further care and Martin will be honored with a Life Saving Award along with Officer Schwarzer. News Channel 9

- ➤ Thai Smile reopened at 321 Market St. on Friday after moving one block because its former location will host a Mast General Store opening in 2027—owner Peanut Saeko said. The restaurant now operates Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. and on weekends from 12 to 9 p.m. in its 1,650 square foot space updated with local partner Noon Development. - ➤ A Chattanooga man quit his job and sold his home after a romance scam left him $254K poorer when he learned at the airport that there was no ticket to Florida — Hamilton County investigators recovered nearly $160K for him while another local resident had $54K returned after falling for a fake Treasury call. - ➤ The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has suspended Greek life activities until September 5, 2025, after hazing concerns arose from dangerous fraternity rituals involving the Alpha-Iota Chapter. A mandatory meeting for all members is set for September 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. (in McKenzie Arena) to review safety policies. News Channel 9

- ➤ Hamilton County officials reported that flash flooding on August 12 damaged roughly 300 structures in East Ridge, Brainerd, East Brainerd and the Highway 58 area — spurring an ongoing collection of damage reports. They said the county may fall short of the $13 million in statewide damages needed for FEMA aid — so local leaders urged affected residents to seek help from volunteer groups. Local 3 News
