  • Today, First Horizon Foundation announced a $25,000 donation to the American Red Cross to support flood relief efforts in Chattanooga & Mayor Tim Kelly praised the donation for helping neighbors recover.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Welcome Home of Chattanooga received a $3,000 grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help residents in need — the funding supports nutritional education and services for cancer respite or hospice care.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Aug. 21, Todd Morgan, executive director of Preserve Chattanooga, spoke to almost 90 local preservationists in the basement of Second Presbyterian Church, where a TV screen showed images labeled LOST, THREATENED, and PROTECTED—highlighting the urgent need to save Chattanooga’s historic buildings.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hamilton County school board voted 6—5 to reject the renewal of its long-term contract with Centerstone, a mental health center that had provided school-based counseling for over 2,600 students. The board decision leaves schools relying on parents to secure mental health services for children in need.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents affected by heavy flooding earlier this month may still face mold issues and water damage, and the Better Business Bureau advises checking contractor licenses and history before starting repairs. The BBB also recommends contacting insurance companies first and getting at least three repair bids—steps that help homeowners avoid unlicensed work.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Collegedale Municipal Airport announced new features — including a courtesy vehicle, two golf carts, community hangar space and concierge service — to help pilots and guests navigate town easier. The airport said the improvements support a more welcoming visit.  Local 3 News
  • The Chattanooga Police Department helped a stranded driver early Friday morning as a CPD Watch Commander and Sergeants Horton, Bramlett, and Ziegler worked together to overcome a stubborn spare, two jacks, and a dead battery + muscle and creative problem-solving to get the car safely back on the road. The department showed its commitment to public service with fast roadside assistance.  Local 3 News
