- ➤ Chattanooga Union Gospel Mission hosted its 11th annual Labor Day Barbeque fundraiser this afternoon—raising over $34,000 with an anonymous donation matching up to $5,000 to support addiction recovery. John Rector said the funds will also provide holiday meals for the homeless, with plans to serve up to 500 meals during upcoming events. News Channel 9
- ➤ A Chattanooga baby named Levi Darr will be featured on two Times Square Jumbotron screens on September 6 as part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society video—this one-hour presentation includes over 500 photographs of people with Down syndrome from across all 50 states and 11 countries. The livestream on NDSS Facebook from 9:30-10:30 a.m. ET will also kick off the New York City Buddy Walk. News Channel 9

- ➤ Kaiden Bates, a former Kappa Sigma pledge involved in a self-immolation incident at UTC last September, said he did not view his dangerous stunt as hazing even though campus police found a three-year pattern of hazardous practices—UTC paused Greek Life for two weeks as student conduct investigations continued. - ➤ A candlelit vigil was held Sunday evening in honor of Sekani McKevie-Chubb, a three-year-old who drowned on August 28, and police arrested a 21-year-old woman and a 17-year-old teen in connection with his death—prompting an ongoing investigation. Local 3 News

- ➤ U.T.C. paused all Greek activities last week after a hazing investigation led to two students being burned, and it will hold a required community meeting at McKenzie Arena from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday to review safety and policy measures. A national free speech group, FIRE, alleges the blanket ban punishes groups with no wrongdoing and violates First Amendment rights. News Channel 9

- ➤ Local 3 has an exclusive look at the new Chickamauga Lock chamber under construction that will improve traffic for commercial and recreational vessels. The lock will reach initial operating capability by 2028 and be fully operational by 2031—engineers say it will boost safety and efficiency in the area. Local 3 News
- ➤ Traffic lights on Market, Broad, Chestnut, Georgia and Cherry Streets were dark between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. due to emergency EPB repairs—affecting 18 intersections—and drivers are reminded to treat them as four-way stops. Local 3 News
- ➤ Today, the Tennessee Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers fined Comfort Cremation Center $5,000 for deceptive practices and operating without a license or fixed place of business— the consent order also requires the service to obtain a valid license and establish a permanent business location.
