- ➤ The Chattanooga Area Food Bank will fight hunger by hosting the Nooga Hunger Walk Run on Sunday, September 14 along Riverfront Parkway—where runners, donors, and volunteers can join the fight. Food insecurity affects one in six people in the Tennessee Valley amid record-high hunger levels. Local 3 News

- ➤ Volkswagen Chattanooga announced Tuesday morning that it furloughed 160 workers, reducing ID.4 production. The company said future output will be lower. Local 3 News
- ➤ In August, several Chattanooga-area businesses announced new openings and developments, with Thai Smile reopening at 321 Market St. with revised hours, an Embassy Suites hotel launching downtown with a Sept 9 grand opening, and Chattanooga Room in the Inn starting a thrift store in East Ridge. Sequoyah Hospitality will expand the Hawaiian Bros Island Grill chain with a Hixson location later this year—other projects include a Kairos Power agreement with TVA, the completion of a steel frame at Erlanger Park, and a groundbreaking for the Battlefield Connector Trail. - ➤ McKamey Animal Center is asking the public for help identifying suspects after five dead goats were found behind Aldi’s on Mundy Street in Chattanooga—forensic tests will be conducted soon. News Channel 9
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The IBMA Bluegrass Ramble will be held in Chattanooga from September 16 to 18 at several local venues. A special Chattanooga Edition on September 18 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium — co-hosted by Steve Martin and Alison Brown — will feature top bluegrass talent and set the stage for the Bluegrass Music Awards. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the state's largest health insurer, laid off 150 employees and closed its Chattanooga subsidiary on September 1—health coverage for members remained unaffected. The layoffs came as the company moved away from an unsustainable business path. Local 3 News
- ➤ Health inspectors from Hamilton, Catoosa and Walker counties inspected local restaurants ending Sept. 2—scores ranged from 92 to 100. Several places had problems like pink and black build up on a machine and soil residue on drink nozzles, so those that fail key checks will get reinspected. Chattanooga Times Free Press
- ➤ Michael Sutton is the president of the Chattanooga Heart Institute and has worked in health care for 25 years. He started in accounting but changed paths after seeing a debridement—now he focuses on helping doctors deliver quality care to our community. Chattanooga Times Free Press
