BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce recruited over $1B in capital investment this year with 95% coming from Novonix’s planned expansion that will create 500 new jobs—boosting local industry. The Chamber celebrated the report with a cocktail reception and dinner at the Convention Center—attended by 800 to 1,000 business and community leaders.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • At Amada, co-owner Amanda Trotter said a masked 29-year-old suspect from Atlanta robbed the restaurant by pointing a fake gun and duct taping employees—forcing some into the freezer and using one as a shield as police aimed at the door.  Local 3 News
  • At Hamilton County Jail, inmate Leslie Walker died after being assaulted with a makeshift weapon by another inmate on Friday — the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing the case while corrections staff extracted suspect Christopher Walton after he barricaded himself in his cell.  Local 3 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Hamilton County residents, businesses, and nonprofits affected by the deadly Aug. 12 floods can now apply for low-interest SBA disaster loans to repair or upgrade damaged property—homeowners may borrow up to $500k while businesses and nonprofits can secure up to $2 million. Loan applications remain open until Nov. 3 for property repair and until June 2 for economic injury assistance.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton County principals said they were shocked when the school board ended a 10-year deal with Centerstone that provided counseling, leaving over 2500 students without mental health support. They noted counselors were told to clear out their offices the next day—sparking backlash from parents urging the board to reverse the decision.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga will update traffic patterns next week with a new all-way stop at Sterling Avenue and Dennis Road and road resurfacing on Seneca Avenue beginning Monday — crews will also shift lanes and close parts of Central Avenue for milling and paving. The city will close sections on Tremont Street, Central Avenue at Halsey Street, the 1300 Block of Bailey Avenue, and Suck Creek Road for repairs, with work subject to weather.  Local 3 News

  • The Tennessee Volunteers, who opened with a 45-26 win over Syracuse in Atlanta, will clash today at Neyland Stadium with the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, who recently defeated Murray State 45-17 + the game kicks off at 3:30 p.m.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
