BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two former Marthie Ann's employees said the restaurant in Ooltewah closed on September 2 and they received only partial pay while owner Joseph Keel has not answered calls. They stressed that many workers are now facing hard times—one employee said that without full pay, meeting bills has become very difficult.  Local 3 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The second annual Nosh-a-Nooga food festival took place Sunday at the Waterhouse Pavilion in Chattanooga, where thousands enjoyed traditional Kosher dishes such as Challah, Babka, Bagels and Lox. Organizers said the event raised awareness of antisemitism— and they will announce next year’s date soon.  Local 3 News
  • Chattanooga will host the International Bluegrass Music Association's World of Bluegrass event from Sept 16 to Sept 20, which brings a business conference, live concerts, an awards show, and a two-day live festival—while the free 3 Sisters Festival of Bluegrass takes place Oct 3-4 with many local and visiting bands. Residents can look forward to a busy fall filled with music and community celebration.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The city announced on Friday a pilot program in Brainerd and Belvoir neighborhoods for curbside food waste and glass recycling collection—residents who sign up online will receive bins as NewTerra Composting handles food waste and Overlooked Materials collects glass.  Local 3 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tennessee Titans safety Amani Hooker signed a multiyear contract extension—keeping him on the team past this season. Hooker, entering his seventh season, posted a career-high five interceptions last year and was named team captain.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Sunday's final game at AT&T Field ended an era for the Chattanooga Lookouts — the team featured players with big league potential as fans remembered Miss Wanda, the celebrated Program Lady.  Local 3 News
  • UTC's football team lost 45—17 last Saturday in Cookeville and is learning to work together as many new players join the roster, with safety Khari Gee saying the Mocs must play strong every game. Coach Rusty Wright said the team will work over the next 48 hours before their home opener against Stetson at 6 p.m.—a challenging schedule that includes a trip to Tarleton State and the start of SoCon play.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Sunday’s matchup was the final game at AT&T Field for the Chattanooga Lookouts as the team played with a promising lineup and Miss Wanda 'The Program Lady' moved with the team to their new stadium at Erlanger Park.  Local 3 News
