- ➤ On Tuesday, a Soddy-Daisy man pleaded guilty in Hamilton County Criminal Court to raping his autistic and nonverbal relative earlier this year and was sentenced to 10 years in prison; he will be on the sex offender registry for life. Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ University of Tennessee at Chattanooga reported a historic fall enrollment of 12,060 students—this count includes 10,396 undergraduates and 1,664 graduate students and marks the highest number ever recorded for the college. UTC plans to grow to 15,000 students by 2030 while expanding its online and hybrid programs to support working professionals. Local 3 News

- ➤ UTC parent Whitney Galloway, a 911 dispatcher, received the first call reporting an active shooter threat on UTC campus on August 21 while her children were in class & Hamilton County honored her with an Outstanding Performance Award. More than 65 units from seven law enforcement agencies & local emergency teams responded to clear the campus and secure the area. News Channel 9
- ➤ Yesterday, Chattanooga city council approved Mayor Tim Kelly's budget plan with a 1.93 property tax rate that raised revenue by $44.8 million—this came even as rising property values increased the median tax bill by $1.10 per day. The plan will add 15 new firefighting positions, fund extra paving and public works projects, and set aside $5 million for affordable housing and community centers. News Channel 9
- ➤ Chattanooga City Council approved a tax rate increase by a 5—3 vote Tuesday evening, a measure proposed by Mayor Kelly that raised the rate from $1.55 to $1.93 per $100 and is effective immediately to add an extra $45 million to the city budget for police and fire pay raises and road paving. The council also added about $13.3 million to this fiscal year's budget for public works, parks and economic development while one council member was absent. Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ Local health departments in Hamilton, Catoosa, and Walker counties released restaurant inspection scores for the week ending Sept. 9, 2025—Jersey Mike's earned failing marks after findings like water-contaminated sugar and onions stored on the floor, with other establishments also showing safety issues.
