COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Chattanooga Police Department team won a softball tournament on Sunday evening at AT&T Field—raising funds for local kids through the Forgotten Child Fund and YMCA Y-Cap as fans cheered first responders.  Chattanooga CW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A WDEF News 12 Now employee lost his job after he posted on social media celebrating Charlie Kirk's death, the station said — his comment sparked an internal investigation. The firing followed a Monday post that breached the station's standards for respectful debate.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today in Chattanooga, the IBMA Bluegrass Ramble begins with evening showcases at various venues through September 18 — the events include a special Chattanooga Edition featuring local talent and will be followed by the IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards with co-hosts Steve Martin and Alison Brown.  Local 3 News
  • Today at Chattanooga Zoo, visitors can join a wild encounters program that lets them see red pandas and other animals up close—booking early is advised due to high demand.  Local 3 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hamilton County Schools reported about 500 fewer students this fall compared to last with total enrollment now at 44,784 while The Howard School lost nearly 300 students. Charter schools saw gains — with ChattAcademy nearly doubling its enrollment — which shows mixed enrollment trends in the district.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Hamilton County school board members have received over 4,000 emails urging them to reinstate their agreement with Centerstone— a counseling provider for 50 schools that helped about 1,000 students last summer. The board will review the issue at a meeting on September 18 where constituents may suggest measures like mandatory background checks for Centerstone employees.  Local 3 News
  • Hamilton County Schools updated safety protocols for athletic events and board meetings, and these measures take effect immediately. The new rules require metal detector screenings, bag checks, and school-issued tickets for student athletes, while community seating at board meetings is limited to only the first 120 arrivals—next meeting is set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Chattanooga Public Works Department warns residents about bogus flyers reporting code violations that are being distributed by a private company—these flyers are not from the city. Officials urge homeowners to verify any official notice by calling the Land Development Office at 423 643 5800 or 423 643 7307.  Local 3 News
  • Hamilton County clerk Bill Knowles—who served over 50 years—said he will not run for reelection and on Monday endorsed his chief deputy, Brooke Weaver, who promised to maintain fiscally conservative practices and efficient service in the office.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
