- ➤ Midtown Connect is asking for candy donations from unopened, individually wrapped bags dropped off at select locations in Chattanooga from September 15 to October 10 to fill trunks for its Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat. The free, family-friendly event will be held on October 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Marlin Road near Eastgate Loop—featuring a Kids Zone, vendors and community trunk stations. Local 3 News
- ➤ City and county officials said Friday that Holly Park in Soddy-Daisy will get many upgrades with a $250,000 grant from Hamilton County’s Small-Town Grant Matching Program. Planned improvements include new signs, pergola swings, picnic tables, ADA-compliant restrooms, a gathering pavilion, a new dock, a wider boat ramp and a fish weigh-in station—boosting recreation for local anglers and families. - ➤ The EPB Board voted on Friday, September 19 to name Janet Rehberg as CEO-elect, and she will succeed longtime CEO David Wade by fall; Wade, who began as a lineman 42 years ago, will work with Rehberg over the next year to ensure a smooth handoff—keeping EPB on track with its innovative service. - ➤ Preserve Chattanooga honored projects and people on Thursday night at the Read House in partnership with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Interior Architecture and Design program—awarding efforts that included using reclaimed wood from the Chattanooga Choo Choo canopies to transform the 1920s Bank Building into the Waymark Hotel. - ➤ Joe Smith—a Hixson board member—will remain chair of the Hamilton County Board of Education for another year after a 7 to 4 vote that split along party lines. He will lead the board through its final year before five seats face election in August while new officers are chosen for vice chair and legislative chair roles. Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ Chattanooga will host the One Community, One Mission: Violence Summit on October 8 when city leaders, community experts and local residents gather at Brainerd Crossroads on Austin Street from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to discuss violence prevention—registration is required. Local 3 News
- ➤ Hamilton County Commissioner Jeff Eversole announced on Friday he is running for re-election to keep the District 10 seat and said his record includes work on zoning, infrastructure, and emergency preparedness. He promised to focus on public safety and smart spending if re-elected—his primary is on May 5, 2026 and his general election is on August 6, 2026. Local 3 News

- ➤ Tennessee’s No. 15 Volunteers will host coach Trent Dilfer’s UAB Blazers today at Neyland Stadium with a 12:45 p.m. kickoff—redshirt freshman linebacker Edwin Spillman will face his former high school coach as the team aims to bounce back from last week’s close overtime loss. - ➤ The Lookout Valley Yellow Jackets rebuilt their roster from nine players last season to 30 players this season and earned two wins after an 0-10 record. Head Coach Brandon Moore said the team— which includes many first-timers and his son—worked hard to rewrite its story. News Channel 9
