- ➤ Officials previewed renovations of the community hub in Chattanooga's Westside as work on the James A. Henry building continues and is expected to finish in October this year—part of the area's redevelopment effort. The project aims to create a renewed space for local residents. - ➤ East Ridge has extended its Fall Festival to a two-day event starting September 27 at the Amphitheater at Camp Jordan Park — the festival will feature over 200 vendors, food trucks, live music, and family attractions with Saturday scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with free admission and parking. - ➤ A leak from recent storms caused two ceiling tiles to fall at the air traffic control tower at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport and the FAA moved operations off-site with no injuries or equipment damage — air traffic control services continue normally with plans to return soon. Local 3 News

- ➤ This weekend in Chattanooga, events will draw crowds as the Ironman Triathlon starts Sunday at 7:30 a.m.—with Comic Con, live music and fall festivals planned—for athletes and families. - ➤ Chattanooga City Council approved an extra $5.5 million from contingency funds to fix structural issues on Walnut Street Bridge, which is set to be fully renovated by September 2026. Most work on the Northshore section is complete and new plans include light shades and security cameras — with funding coming mainly from federal grants, state money and a hotel-motel tax that will not affect the city budget. - ➤ Recent storms damaged the roof of the air traffic control tower at Chattanooga Airport, and two ceiling panels fell (no one was hurt). Air traffic control operations were moved to the TRACON facility as crews work on cleanup and repair with no set timeline. News Channel 9
- ➤ On Sept 27, 2024, TVA crews lost sight of Nolichucky Dam as floodwaters from Hurricane Helene surged over the dam and later caused its damaged powerhouse to be removed. TVA said its system of dams prevented $406 million in flood damage and kept Chattanooga’s water levels from rising 21 to 23 feet—protecting homes and lives. Chattanooga Times Free Press

- ➤ A Vanderbilt doctor warned that synthetic opioids called nitazenes, which can be up to 20 times stronger than fentanyl, are reappearing in drug supplies and have been linked to at least 90 deaths in Tennessee—emergency rooms may not detect them with standard tests. The study shows even a tiny amount can stop breathing and naloxone may require extra doses to work properly. News Channel 9
