CULTURE NEWS

  • Chattanooga hosts a busy weekend as Rock City opens its first Enchanted Pumpkin Patch and the new Sports Card Show takes place today (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Camp Jordan Arena with (250 tables) for deals while the Convention Center draws comic fans with 50 vendors and gaming into the evening; the East Ridge Fall Festival offers family fun and the IRONMAN triathlon will attract over 2,500 athletes on Sunday with road closures lasting until Monday at 8 p.m.  Local 3 News
  • Rock City opened its Enchanted Pumpkin Patch on Friday featuring thousands of hand-carved pumpkins and an 18-foot-tall scarecrow as part of its art garden display. The event runs through Oct 31 and offers fall drinks and fun activities—face painting, a petting zoo, and a magic show—to invite families for a special night out.  Local 3 News
  • Wine Over Water, Chattanooga’s signature wine festival, returns Saturday, Oct. 25 from 6 to 9:00 p.m. at Renaissance Park as it celebrates 30 years with curated tastings, food by Whitebird, live music by Ben Van Winkle & Figment, and performances from the Chattanooga Circus Collective. A Best Cellars event on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Hunter Museum of American Art will benefit Preserve Chattanooga with premium wines and live music.  Local 3 News

  • Chattanooga Tourism Company said the upcoming IRONMAN Triathlon weekend will draw over 10,000 visitors and bring in over $6 million, saving Hamilton Co. households about $1,200. Athletes have trained for months to adjust to local conditions — a trend expected to boost local businesses during the event.  Local 3 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTC is changing campus programs to follow federal rules from a DOJ memo on July 29—ending centers like the Women's and Gender Equity Center, PRISM Center, Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Student and Family Engagement—and will launch a new leadership center on October 15. All student organizations will be restructured under one office.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Signal Mountain Police and Fire Departments are hosting the 4th Annual Cornhole Tournament on October 4 at the Mountain Arts Community Center on Kentucky Avenue from 12:00 p.m.—2:00 p.m. All funds raised will support Signal Mountain Social Services Programs to help local families in need.  Local 3 News
  • Lawmakers must reach a deal by midnight, September 30th to prevent a partial government shutdown that may furlough federal workers and close National Park sites such as Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park—local leaders say food banks could face added pressure if paychecks are delayed. Essential services like Social Security and Medicare will remain unaffected.  Local 3 News

  • Today, TVA is lowering the river flow from 33,000 to 22,000 cubic feet per second so thousands of Ironman athletes can have safe conditions to complete the swim portion of the upcoming Chattanooga IRONMAN. Athletes like Amanda Grohowski and Emma Hanes expect the new flow to provide better water conditions—helping them prepare after past cancellations.  Local 3 News
  • UTC hosts The Citadel this weekend at Finley Stadium with a 6 p.m. kickoff as the Mocs try to end their title drought since 2015 — the game is part of a reunion weekend honoring past championship teams.   • East Hamilton won a 56-33 game over Rhea County on Friday when senior Jaden Haywood rushed for 262 yards and scored two touchdowns—teammate Caden Talley returned an interception for a touchdown that flipped the game in the Hurricanes' favor, marking their first 6-0 season as they prepare for tougher challenges ahead.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
