COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This week in the Chattanooga area, Midtown Connect is running a candy drive for the Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 25—donations of unopened candy are accepted at local sites through Oct. 10 to help supply sweets for 4,000 to 5,000 children. Local venues are also hosting art exhibits, live music, film screenings and fall festivals that continue through early November.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comic Con returns to Chattanooga as its vendor hall was open yesterday from 10:00am to 6:00pm + is open today from 11:00am to 5:00pm.  Local 3 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tennessee remains among the nation’s top four states for expected electric vehicle manufacturing jobs with over 16,000 projected roles largely driven by Ford and SK On’s BlueOval project in West Tennessee amid slowing investments and policy uncertainty. The state is also expanding its public charging infrastructure under the Fast Charge TN program along major corridors such as the one connecting Chattanooga—adding 35 operational sites and 18 more in development.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tennessee educators testified before lawmakers on Wednesday that many 10-year-olds are not ready for the two-week TCAP testing block and urged officials to change the state testing schedule. Lawmakers will review proposals in October while education officials said elementary school online tests will start in spring 2027—aiming to speed grading and ease student stress.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sixteen-year-old Cash Daniels, known as The Conservation Kid, has led cleanups along the Tennessee River and launched Lines of Hope to collect fishing line waste—partnering with park officials to install 160 collection bins and removing over 46,000 lbs of trash while speaking at national conventions to boost local conservation efforts.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Josh Stein and Federal Highway Administrator Sean McMaster held a joint news conference along I-40 (near the Tennessee line) to show that crews have reopened a five-mile stretch with one lane in each direction after repairs following Hurricane Helene. They said crews will use local rock to speed up work as they plan to restore a full four-lane highway on seven miles by 2027.  News Channel 9
  • Deputy Marcus Dotson was honored Saturday with the Margaret Chastain First Responder of the Year Award for his service at Sale Creek Middle/High School—he built trust among students by volunteering with the school's teams and creating training programs for his unit.  News Channel 9
  • Local lawmakers and officials joined Bradley County Fire Rescue in its first—Fire Ops event where they suited up, cut through burning cars and crawled through smoky hallways to learn how tough firefighting is.  News Channel 9

  • Chattanooga doctor Dr. Meena Singh discussed how new Jak inhibitor treatments offer hope for those with Alopecia Areata—after longtime patient Brandi Jones reinvented her identity and regained self-confidence. Brandi urged others to stay hopeful as evolving treatments now provide more options for managing hair loss.  News Channel 9
  • FDA officials detected cesium 137 in a sample of cloves sent from Indonesia as recalls of shrimp contaminated with the same radioactive isotope continued. Investigators are examining the shipments and tracing a possible common source — including industrial scrap metal — to ensure contaminated products are removed from shelves.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

  • Fall has arrived and the Better Business Bureau in Chattanooga released home maintenance tips to help residents prepare their houses for winter—advising tasks such as cleaning gutters, inspecting roofs, testing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and organizing garages for safety and efficiency.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • The Guild-Hardy Trail on Lookout Mountain will reopen on October 8 after sewage leaks were fixed and thorough cleaning was completed by the conservancy — the popular trail that connects historic sites like Craven’s House has drawn over 10,000 visitors each year.  News Channel 9

  • The Tennessee Volunteers beat Mississippi State 41-34 in overtime Saturday in Starkville — a 25-yard touchdown run by DeSean Bishop clinched the win.   • The winless Texans and Titans head into today’s AFC South clash at NRG Stadium as both teams face offensive struggles early this season.
