COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Red Bank’s Active Older Adults Program posted its free October schedule, which includes weekly art classes—origami on October 2, mandala on October 6, teapot painting on October 13, weaving on October 20, and watercolor on October 27—and regular social and wellness activities with guided exercise, game time, Qi Gong, chair yoga, and music jam sessions held on set days. The month ends with a BINGO game on October 30 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm open to all active older adults in Red Bank.  Local 3 News
  • After weeks of cleanup following a sewage leak that closed the Guild-Hardy Trail in September, the popular path off Ochs Highway will reopen on Oct. 8 — Lookout Mountain Conservancy and partner organizations led restoration efforts with help from student-interns at The Howard School.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Business owner Brandon Conner of Swift Property Solutions said city officials mischaracterized his company by warning residents about flyers on code violations—he claimed his firm obtained information solely from public records. Conner added that the city offered no proof or followup and that the warning has harmed his reputation—leaving him shocked by the city's actions.  Local 3 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Former state representative Robin Smith pleaded guilty to one count of honest services fraud and resigned from her District 26 seat—she will face sentencing on October 24 at 9:00 a.m. after a federal investigation.  Local 3 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hamilton County School Board is mulling a new meeting schedule that sets committee meetings at 4:30 p.m. and board sessions at 6 p.m.—a change planned for next year, with board members also weighing how to track student tech access. A student representative stressed that monitoring Chromebook availability is a key part of the discussion.  News Channel 9
  • Chattanooga State Community College held a screening of the documentary The Nuclear Frontier on Sept.29 and a panel discussion to show how its nuclear power program has grown since seven students first studied engineering technology three years ago. The event is part of a national tour aimed at boosting support for nuclear power expansion.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Walden and Hamilton County are discussing purchasing 42 acres along Taft Highway, across from Town Hall, for $2.4 million—if the deal moves forward, an experiential elementary school and community building may be developed—and residents will be invited to share their feedback.  Local 3 News
  • UTC is ending several DEI programs because new state laws ban them and will replace these efforts with a new Center for Student Leadership, Engagement and Community—students plan civic engagement events on October 1 and a protest march on October 7 to voice their concerns.  News Channel 9

  • Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly discussed juvenile crime rates, parking issues, and property taxes in an interview Monday morning on ARC Chattanooga. He spoke with reporters Dane Wurmlinger and Hannah Ferrara and aimed to address growing local concerns.  News Channel 9

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Grayson Foundation and American Childhood Cancer Organization launched a childhood cancer license plate campaign in Tennessee to honor children in treatment, remission, and in heaven— the state requires at least 1,000 pre-orders by Jan.6 for production to begin.  News Channel 9

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A bright blue three-bedroom modular home arrived in pieces and was assembled on Bailey Avenue in Highland Park using four boxes made in a Hixson factory—this is the first house from a CNE spin-off that could serve as a model for affordable building in the area.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 IRONMAN Chattanooga ended over the weekend—drawing international athletes who swam, biked, and ran through the course. Top finishers in the Pro Men race were Rasmus Svenningsson, Cameron Wurf, and Trevor Foley while Pro Women winners were Anna Pabinger, Jodie Robertson, and Danielle Fauteux—each earning their titles in a tough endurance challenge.  Local 3 News
  • East Hamilton senior Jaden (Hollywood) Haywood earned Player of the Week honors after scoring 23 touchdowns across six games as the Class 5A Hurricanes maintained a 6-0 win streak. He leads all Tennessee high school players in touchdowns as his team remains unbeaten.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Tyre West played strongly in an overtime win at Mississippi State last Saturday, making three tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble—he was named SEC defensive lineman of the week and will finish his final games with the Volunteers.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
