  • Kozy Farms Ministry helped children and rescued horses through immersive programs—using faith to guide care—to build lasting bonds in the community.  Local 3 News
  • Kimberly Smith—a local domestic violence survivor—is sharing her story this Domestic Violence Awareness Month to inspire others and encourage victims to seek help.  Local 3 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Food City will close its Chickamauga Avenue store in Rossville on Nov. 3 because it could not renew its lease—leaving many shoppers who walk for groceries to travel several miles for a full-service market. Local residents may face a gap in easy food access as alternatives are farther away.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After ending its nearly 10-year partnership amid criticism, the Hamilton County School Board voted to cut Centerstone’s mental health services and will soon issue an RFP for school mental health providers—Centerstone said it will bid if invited while some board members plan to push for immediate help. Proposals will be evaluated over the coming weeks so families can choose a qualified vendor.  Local 3 News
  • The James A. Henry School on Westside is nearing completion after more than a year of work and will reopen on October 31. The renovated building will offer Head Start programs and a two-story art gallery—spaces designed with local input and a plaza for community use.  Local 3 News
  • Yesterday, the U.S. Navy visited Walker Valley High School for a STEM Field Day where students experienced a mobile mixed-reality challenge—called the Strike Group—that tested skills on a simulated aircraft carrier deck and in a full-motion flight simulator. This demonstration highlighted Navy STEM career opportunities for local students.  Local 3 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chattanooga’s $153M water project to improve flow and quality began construction a year ago and has been underway for months—officials say the work is on track to boost local water systems.  Local 3 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal workers in Chattanooga face the risk of missing their paychecks today amid the third day of the government shutdown—federal negotiations on health care rollbacks remain stalled, leaving many employees furloughed.  News Channel 9

SPORTS NEWS

  • Baylor beat McCallie 38+35 Friday night at Spears Stadium as junior running back David Gabriel-Georges rushed 25 times for 280 yards and scored three touchdowns to give Baylor their first win on McCallie’s field since 1996. The team improved to 6+0 while McCallie dropped to 5+2.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Friday night at McCallie School saw the oldest rivalry in the state heat up when Baylor and McCallie for the first time both appeared in the nation’s top 25. Baylor is undefeated and ranked 23 nationally and #1 statewide — while McCallie is 25th nationally and #2 in state, with fans expecting a memorable contest.  News Channel 9
  • Walker Valley's Mustangs won a TSSAA Region 3—5A game against East Hamilton on Friday night when sophomore Christopher Malick's 31—yard field goal as time expired gave them a 40—37 comeback win after trailing all game. The win improved the Mustangs’ record to 6—1 and placed them on top of the 4—5A standings with two region games remaining.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
  • Baylor School released a hype video ahead of its annual football game against rival McCallie—school officials say the clip is designed to engage players and fans as both teams prepare for the matchup.  Chattanooga Times Free Press
