CRIME NEWS

  • Chattanooga police are asking for help identifying an unidentified white female seen at Motel 6 on Lee Hwy during the murder of Alvin Davis Jr. earlier this month—police released three grainy photos and urge anyone with information to call the homicide tip line at 423-643-5100.  Local 3 News
  • A Hixson man, Alex J. Stallion, 27, was arrested on first-degree murder charges in connection with a targeted shooting near the Missionary Ridge Tunnel that killed a 29-year-old man on Aug. 17—police said.  Chattanooga Times Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chattanooga waste trucks now display QR codes linking to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library so parents can sign up for free books and help kids start school ready to read—Public Works is also giving out free school supplies as part of back-to-school efforts.  News Channel 9
  • Parents in Chattanooga are worried as swatting calls have raised safety concerns at local schools, and some are even thinking of homeschooling. Retired FBI agent Doug Kouns said schools are adding measures—like lockdown drills and better cameras—to keep students safe.  Local 3 News

  • Chattanooga’s fire chief—Terry Knowles—was sworn in on Thursday in a ceremony held by the city. A veteran who joined the department in 2005, he will lead the fire service following Phil Hyman’s retirement.  Chattanooga CW
  • Chattanooga’s new fire chief Terry Knowles was sworn in Thursday as he joins discussions on raising firefighter salaries amid high turnover from low pay — City Council will vote on Mayor Tim Kelly’s tax plan that would boost starting salaries from $43,000 to $56,000. Catalina Kay, whose spouse is a firefighter, said the proposed raise is vital for families coping with inflation.  News Channel 9
  • Chattanooga Public Works introduced its first compressed natural gas recycling trucks to cut fuel costs and lower emissions in support of Mayor Tim Kelly’s One Chattanooga Plan—children visited the trucks at Signal Centers on Tuesday and used a QR code to register for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library—helping promote early literacy.  Local 3 News
  • Two weeks after severe flooding hit East Ridge, officials and residents reported widespread damage that did not meet the $13 million threshold for FEMA funding — residents voiced frustration over blocked streets and delayed response. Mayor Brian Williams and City Manager Scott Miller say safety improvements and a hydrologist study of drainage systems will guide future recovery efforts.  News Channel 9
